DISCLAIMER ON THE UNCONSTITUTIONAL NULLIFICATION OF THE ELECTORAL COMMITTEE

The attention of the National Parliament and the entire FIBSU community has been drawn to a press release issued by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Umar Faruq, seeking to nullify the Electoral Committee duly constituted and inaugurated by the National Congress on April 5th, 2025, at Ibadan House.

We wish to categorically state that the Congress which held on the said date was validly convened and had in attendance over 75 Congressmen and Congresswomen, including 24 Chapter Presidents, Principal Officers of the National Parliament, National Executives, the FIBSU Alumni secretary and a past National President representing the stakeholders. The committee in question was constituted through a transparent nomination process in full alignment with the FIBSU National Constitution.

It is highly disappointing that the Speaker, who was physically present at the emergency Congress and participated in its proceedings—including the reinstatement of the Vice President I and the inauguration of the Electoral Committee would now attempt to discredit the same event. This raises serious concerns about personal bias and disregard for democratic processes.

For clarity and constitutional backing, we refer the Speaker and concerned members to Section B of the FIBSU National Constitution, which outlines the powers and procedures of the Congress, including its authority to constitute committees where necessary.

Obviously the speaker has shown deep interest in the electoral process by making various moves and immediately the congress went against he stormed out of the congress to release a statement that is not only wrong but unconstitutional. For record purpose let it be known that Umar Faruq has brought nothing but shame and disgrace to the union and can’t be taken serious as he also plans to impose on the union yesterday.

We, the undersigned Principal Officers of the National Parliament, hereby debunk and reject the nullification statement from the Speaker as baseless, unconstitutional, and an attempt to derail the progress of our union. We affirm our support for the Electoral Committee as constituted by the Congress and urge all members of the Union to comply strictly with its directives and leadership moving forward.

Oke Ibadan a gbe gbogbo wa ooo!!!
